Davison Family Origins

Davison family origins in the beginning of the 18h century in the north of England, close to the border with Scotland. John Davison and Jane Johnson married on February 1st, 1721 and had one son called Robert Davison, christened on April 22, 1722, in Longhorsley, Northumberland.

Robert married Margaret Morrison on November 6, 1749 in Felton, Northumberland, according to his marriage certificate.They had one son called William Davison, christened on September 29, 1751 in Felton, besides other 4 children: Robert (1753), Andrew (1756), Humphrey (1759) and Mary (1761).

Felton is a small village on the North of Northumberland, northeast England. The closest city is Newcastle upon Tyne, 39 km South and the border with Scotland is one hour away. In the last census the village had a population of 932 inhabitants.

One of the major avenues in Felton is Davison Avenue.

William married Eleonor Pollock on September 5, 1774 in Felton, according to his marriage certificate. They had one son called Robert Davison on October 1st, 1775 in Felton.
These relationships were found at Ancestry website following the suggestions of the user Simon Molyneux (“simon_molyneux”), which will be seen later he is a distant relative found in the website.


Robert Davison married Jane Armstrong in November 7, 1804 in Kingston, York. She was the daughter of Ralph and Mary Armstrong, born in Tynemouth, England in 1782, according to data found in Family Search website that revealed the name of the couple, their sons and Jane's parents.

They had the following sons:
  • Robert Pollock Davison - 1807
  • Ann Davison - 1808
  • William Davison - 1810
  • John Davison - 1812

The relationship between Robert Pollock and his father was found on his marriage certificate, and the others on England Births and Christenings.

Robert and his two sons Robert Pollock and John were mariners.

All the John Davison's decendent tree was found in Ancestry website on the user Simon Molyneux's relatives, who is John's 2nd great grandson. He provided me much information about the family.

This picture shows John Usher Davison (John's son, Robert Pollock's nephew) and his family in 1895. His sons spreaded in several British territories: South Africa (Durban), India (Bombay) and Canada (British Columbia).
